              then the buzz

red-tailed hawk
sunlight warms a thicket
of mesquite

spring noon
the construction crane
lifts a crow

sparrow fledglings
the old man points
his walking stick

spring sun
an unfinished word
on the to-do list

tidal surge
the shag’s wings open
for the wind to dry
