in the sand

first star —
a tiny crab climbs out
of the sand castle

the mourning dove’s head
turns backward so easily
cool of the evening

the car radio
between stations

spring fever
a new notch
on the tomcat’s ear

incoming tide
a hermit crab wanders
among empty shells

spring dusk
a black sheep
joins the flock

the whiteness of sheets
filled by the breeze
